A PARTYGOER was caught over the limit when he drove his car 100 yards home. Police caught Ian Woods, 21, of Marsh Mead, Hilperton, driving home from a friend's party close to his house.

Michele Hewitt, prosecuting in Chippenham magistrates' court on Thursday, said Woods, who passed his test five months ago, had been spotted driving erratically by police, just after midnight on April 9.

A breath test showed he had 70mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath, which is twice the legal limit.

Michael Wills, defending, said: "His house was only 100 yards away so why he did not walk we will never know."

Woods, who has worked at Roger Lewis Furniture Company in Trowbridge for the past five years, pleaded guilty to drink driving.

He was disqualified for 20 months, fined £200 and ordered to pay £43 costs.
