Justin TomlinsonNORTH SWINDON: A HARD fought two-year battle was not enough to see the Conservatives seize North Swindon from Labour.
Justin Tomlinson came within striking distance of winning the seat this morning but lost out to favourite Michael Wills.
But, the 28-year-old said the Conservatives will be fighting back and will have a better chance next time.
Coun Tomlinson has been on the campaign trail for the past two years.
But, despite his hard work he still couldn't steal the seat away from Labour.
He said: "I am disappointed that I didn't win.
"We did everything we could do to win this seat.
"I'm disappointed I am not one of the surprise wins of the night.
"We fought a very good campaign.
"We have kept Labour on their toes and we have focused on national and local issues.
"I think being a local councillor has given me more support."
And, despite being one of the youngest candidates, Coun Tomlinson did not think this affected his chances of victory.
He said: "My age hasn't come up at all, I have been a councillor for five years and I am relatively experienced.
"A lot has been said about young people and voting and I think my age has encouraged more young people to vote."
