TWO sisters have pleaded not guilty to charges of stealing post from the Royal Mail.

The pair, who were working as casual delivery women for the company, also denied a charge of delaying 58 items of mail.

Luiza De-Melo, 30, and Emilia De-Melo, 22, both of Alfred Street, are accused of stealing eight items of mail, including a talking book sent by the Royal National Institute of the Blind, between February 16 and 21.

Swindon Magistrates' Court heard yesterday that a member of the public found 66 items of post dumped in Wilcot Avenue, Penhill, on February, 22.

Eight of the 66 had been opened.

The sisters, who had to communicate with the court through a Hindi interpreter, deny the charges.

The case has been adjourned to allow social services to carry out a pre-trial review for June 22.

The women were released on unconditional bail until that date.
