SAM Parkin's goals have got Watford buzzing and Hornets boss Adrian Boothroyd looks the most likely manager to splash the cash in pursuit of Championship success.

Manager Andy King dearly wants to hold on to his star striker and admits losing the 24-year-old will be a 'massive wrench'.

Parkin, pictured, remains a Robin for now although many supporters who attended Saturday's 1-1 draw with Chesterfield viewed it as the striker's farewell.

Boothroyd and his assistant Keith Burkinshaw were among the spectators and actually joked with King in the home dug-out ahead of kick-off.

While that could be passed off as mere social pleasantries Watford clearly see Parkin as the man to boost their Championship hopes next season.

The player himself is not going to let more speculation spoil his summer break.

He said: "Until the club come to me and say they've accepted an offer then I won't really worry about it. If I am being watched then obviously it's flattering."

As for King, he does not want to contemplate life without the man who has banged in 73 goals for the club.

He said: "Sam Parkin is the best striker in this division. I'm not even considering losing him. If an offer comes in and the club accepts it and he goes it is a massive, massive wrench."

One man who definitely won't be pulling on the Town shirt again is defender Matt Heywood.

He revealed after Saturday's match that he will be moving on after four-and-half seasons at the County Ground.

While Heywood has rejected a new Town deal youngster Kyle Lapham is not likely to follow suit.

His performances in the last two games have convinced King that the youngster is worthy of a professional deal.

He said: "Lapham will get a contract now, there's no doubt about that. The kid has proved himself at this level."

As for the players pondering whether to accept deals, King has warned that the grass may be greener elsewhere, but less forgiving.

He said: " I found that out at Everton. Goodison Park was a place where I felt I could do nothing wrong.

"I went to other clubs and was a shadow of myself. When you're loved at a club people forgive you for things."

Meanwhile, the club was today expected to announce the date for the long-awaited EGM when the outstanding accounts will be examined by shareholders.
