IT is rare that I agree with Andy Newman about anything, particularly politics, but his call for proportional representation is spot on.
How can the Labour Party claim to speak for the nation when it was returned with just 36 per cent of the turnout and just 22 per cent of those eligible to vote?
In plain English it represents just one in five of the population. How can that possibly be majority rule?
And finally, either Steve Halden was feeling tired and emotional or was just plain misquoted when you reported UKIP gave out 1,500 leaflets.
As one of more than a dozen UKIP leafleteers in Swindon I gave out about 1,000 myself, and I would suggest the total of leaflets was nearer 15,000.
