A superb spell in the middle of Fairford's innings from left-arm spinner John Turton gave Cirencester a winning return to Division One of the Gloucestershire County League.

After coming on to bowl in the 29th over, Turton put the brakes on the Fairford middle order. Turton himself bowled the last over to seal Cirencester's win.

A well constructed fourth-wicket stand between Leadbeater and Newport gave Fairford hope but it was dashed by Turton's accuracy as Fairford fell 21 runs short of Cirencester's match-winning total of 192-6.

The Sunday XI played Swindon Nalgo at the Park. Andy Cooper hit 110 (ret) and his stand of 130 with captain Andy Reynolds (45) enabled Cirencester to post the imposing total of 224-7. Nalgo lost four early wickets but the middle order produced a big stand to take the spoils in the penultimate over.

n Minety elected to bat on an unpredicatable wicket against Oaksey. After losing an early wicket the hosts consolidated with an impressive second-wicket partnership of 84 in 23 overs.

But Darryl Kitchen played one shot too many and was caught for 30 then skipper Neil Sutton was bowled for a duck.

From then on the Minety batting had little to offer with the last nine wickets falling for only 38 runs.

The visitors ran out clear winners by eight wickets with five overs to spare .
