16036/02GAZETTE & HERALD: Six sixth-formers at Hardenhuish School in Chippenham received the Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Award for their outstanding contribution to school life.
Helen Finnamore, Daisy Newsome, Jessica Sadler, Elizabeth Jones, Wendy Graham and Eleanor Gillian were nominated for the award because of their inspirational qualities, demonstrated through their commitment to work for the Meningitis Research Foundation over the last three years.
The award was launched nationwide in April 2000 to recognise and celebrate the outstanding contributions made by many secondary school students.
Headteacher Colin Smith officiated at the ceremony recently. Each girl was presented with a decorative pin and a certificate.
Wayne Howells, assistant headteacher said: "The award was richly deserved. Over the years the girls' enthusiasm and commitment has been infectious.
"They have rallied the whole Hardenhuish community."
The students were given the award for raising £15,000 for the Meningitis Research Foundation.
