EXCLUSIVE: LEE Holmes is high on Andy King's 'wanted' list this summer and the Town boss will attempt to persuade George Burley to loan the youngster out for the 2005-6 campaign.
The County Ground chief admits he will telephone his Pride Park counterpart more in hope than expectation but takes the view that it's a case of nothing ventured, nothing gained.
Holmes, 18, found it difficult to break into Derby's play-off pushing first team last season and admitted that new life had been breathed into his career during three months on loan in Wiltshire.
He won countless man of the match awards and was named young player of the year by the Swindon Town Supporters Trust on Saturday.
There were tears in his eyes as he said goodbye to the Town faithful after a 4-2 win over Wrexham on March 19 and it was clear he was touched by the warmth of the Wiltshire welcome.
Although he was obviously aiming to make the breakthrough at Derby on his return north he vowed that he'd be happy to head back to Wiltshire if another loan spell was likely to prove beneficial.
King, now relaxing on his summer break, said: "Loans are something I have to look at and there's no doubt the boy Holmes is on my list. I can't honestly see me getting him at this stage but I'll certainly be asking George Burley the question. I've nothing to lose.
"Lee brought us tremendous natural width during his time at the club and you could sense something in the crowd every time he got the ball.
"He conducted himself very well here and the important thing is I've now seen he's capable of performing in this league.
"That's so, so important. Just because a kid might be playing in a Premiership team's reserve side there's no guarantee he will add something to your team.
"This is quite literally a different world. While we've had great success with many of the loan players, there have also been cases where people have found it difficult here."
Another former Town loanee is looking for a new club. Ex-Leeds United midfielder Jamie McMaster, who spent a month at the County Ground in the autumn and scored in the 3-3 draw at Stockport County, has been told his short term contract with Chesterfield will not be renewed for the forthcoming campaign.
