WILTSHIRE play their last friendly match before the Minor Counties Championship starts when they take on Hampshire 2nd XI at Salisbury on Sunday.

The side has a youthful look to it as the Wiltshire management take a look at players who can step up to the challenge if there are injuries.

Wiltshire will continue to be captained by Russell Rowe with Mike Coles and James Hayward still in the side after their individually strong performances against Kent in the Cheltenham and Gloucester Trophy last week.

Other players to watch out for are Westbury's South African born batsman, Joe Breet, who it is hoped will have qualified to play in competitive Minor Counties matches by 2006, and Corsham's James Ashford-Brown, who took four wickets for his club last weekend.

Manager Brian White said it should be an even game but that he would be looking for a win to boost confidence before their first championship game against Oxfordshire in two weeks.

"I think they will have a mixture of second team and academy players and that will be similar to our mixture of first choice players and younger players.

"This is only a friendly practice so we are looking at others in case people pick up injuries.

"It is also good to look at the younger players because the development games do not start until the end of July after university and school has finished."

White said he had been impressed with Ashford-Brown last season and was looking forward to seeing how well he performed.

"He's young, he can be quite quick and he's very promising. This is the sort of game where he will come up against first class batsman to test himself."

The 50-over-a-side match starts at 11am at South Wilts Cricket Club in Salisbury.
