Young skaters will finally have a place to meet up and enjoy honing their skills now North Wiltshire District Council has bought equipment for Chippenham's Bridge Centre and a mobile skatepark for Devizes and North Wiltshire.
The mobile skatepark, suitable for skateboards, in-line skates and BMX bikes, is one of the first in the country, and will tour Wootton Bassett, Calne, Purton and Devizes on a weekly basis.
Chippenham will have its own equipment on a permanent basis at the Bridge Centre, where it can be used indoors and out.
The project was launched by Coun Carole O'Gorman on Tuesday and she said she was very excited about the scheme, and while she hasn't given up on finding a site for permanent parks, she considered the new facilities a step in the right direction.
"We have moved on a little bit," she said. I hope it will also encourage people to go out and see what a wonderful sport this is, and what the young people can do."
Young skaters have been involved in the process of setting up Raw Meet- the mobile facility.
At the launch Johnny Edwards, 17, and Goncalo Barata, 18, tried out the new ramps.
"It's certainly better than nothing," Johnny said. "The fact that it moves will give the facility some novelty and change."
The ramps have cost £20,000 and a half pipe a further £20,000.
