Young skaters will finally have a chance to meet up, have fun and hone their skating skills, now North Wiltshire District Council has bought a new touring skatepark which will visit Wootton Bassett, Calne, Purton and Devizes on weekly basis.

And Chippenham will have its own equipment on a permanent basis at the Bridge Centre in Chippenham, where it can be used indoors and outdoors.

This brave new world of North Wiltshire skate boarding was launched by Councillor Carole O'Gorman on Tuesday.

She said she was very excited about the scheme, and while she hasn't given up on finding a site for permanent parks, considered the new facilities a step in the right direction.

She said. "I hope it will also encourage people to go out and see what a wonderful sport this is."

Young skaters have been involved in the process of setting up Raw Meet, the mobile facility.

The ramps have cost £20,000 and a half pipe a further £20,000.

In Chippenham the skatepark will be open at the Bridge Centre at least twice a week, and the roving skatepark will open in Purton village centre on Mondays from 5pm to 8pm, at the White Horse leisure centre, Calne, Tuesday and Friday 5pm to 8pm, and at Devizes Station Road car park Wednesday 5pm to 8pm and Sunday 1pm to 4pm.
