DEVIZES Town ended their season with a 1-0 away defeat but boss Mark Godley is hoping it is not his last game in charge.
Last week the Gazette revealed Godley and assistant manager John Freegard have not been offered a new contract to coach the team next season.
But Godley said he would love to coach the team again next season as he wants to take the team onto the next stage.
"We were given a brief to keep the club in the league and stabilise it and have a good cup run.
"In the main we have achieved all those things so it is now the time to move the club on but we can only do that with support from the committee.
"The players need to know so do the committee and myself and John."
Chairman Phil Rossiter said the club's board wanted manager Godley and assistant Freegard to continue at the club.
He said a verbal agreement was made last season for Godley to manage the club and that in their eyes nothing had changed.
"We are hoping to meet with them on Wednesday. We are not looking for anybody else and we would like them to stay."
Rossiter added there could be a change to the financial structure of the club and the board is hoping to utilise more local players.
"We had a committee meeting on Monday night about how we want to take the club forward over the next couple of years,'' he said.
"We have found it very tight with the playing budget this year so we need to adjust that. We have not really reduced it but we are looking at ways to use the budget in more of an incentive way. We want to put a financial structure there but that is something we will discuss with Mark.
"We also want to utilise the local players and we have a lot of good youngsters coming through which we saw as the U16s won their league this season."
Thursday night's final game of the season had all the feel of two tired and battered teams counting down the seconds until they could go home.
Devizes players appeared to have their minds on the club's end of season trip to Dublin as they controlled most of the possession on a bumpy and sun dried pitch but failed to score the goal they deserved.
In the first half Devizes had two good opportunities to score as first Gary Campbell headed wide from a left-hand side cross after beating the keeper to the ball and then the bounce beat Dave Kilmurray as he went to strike the ball.
But it was Brislington who gained all three points when their striker scored with a neat turn and shot on the edge of the box.
After the goal Brislington shut up shop and saw out the scrappy game.
Godley said his players had done him proud over the season and were just tired. "We have had a lot of games, three in six days. It was just tired legs but fortunately we had done all the hard work the previous week against Bridport.
"It was always going to be a difficult season and John and I were under no illusion.
"If we did not have injuries and suspensions at key times we would have been higher.
"Now there's 16 of us travelling to Dublin and it's been paid for by all the money saved from fines. It shows tremendous team spirit and that's something that's got us through the year."
