TUESDAY night could be the biggest day of the season for Calne Town but assistant manager Simon Hillier won't be there because of another significant occasion his honeymoon.

Hiller, 32, married wife Tracy in December but managed to persuade her to wait for a honeymoon in St Lucia until the season was over.

But now Calne face Bridgwater Town in the Les Phillips Cup Final at Willand Rovers and at kick-off time Hiller, who has been involved as a player and in the management set up for six years, will be on a plane.

Hillier, of Newbury Avenue, said: "I booked the honeymoon for next Tuesday morning thinking everything would be done and dusted even if we did reach the Les Phillips Cup final.

"It's conspired against me but nothing can be done. She has been very understanding because football does take up a lot of my life. She has been as good as gold.

"We will actually be flying when the game takes place but don't worry, as soon as I get off the plane I will be making a call to see how we have done."

The Lily Whites assistant said he hopes to have a winner's medal waiting for him when he returns.

"We have had a fantastic season and to win this trophy would be the icing on the cake."

Calne looked to be knocked out of the competition at the semi-final stage last Saturday, losing a penalty shoot-out 6-5 to Premier Division hosts Backwell.

But the Bristol side's manager Jamie Patch, who resigned this week, told an emergency Western League board meeting last Tuesday that they were withdrawing from the competition following a series of incidents at the clash.

Three people associated with Backwell are currently under investigation by Somerset County FA for alleged assaults on the match referee.

The alleged incidents blew up before the shootout and then again after the conclusion of the tie.

Manager Kelvin Highmore said his side will be ready for the rearranged final. They will have benefited from the week's rest after an intensive end of season.

He said: "We are training a couple of times before the game and any players with niggly injuries will be having a massage.

"It looks like we could have a full squad with James Lye back from suspension.

"The players are over the moon to have this opportunity. They would not change it for anything in the world and they are really up for it now."

Highmore added: "Bridgewater are a very good side and I have seen them twice recently.

"They are a footballing side which will suit us. We always seem to fare better against the footballing sides."
