A chef who attacked a 17-year-old mother so badly that she had to have a drip in hospital has been ordered to pay her £500 compensation.
Owian Parry, 29, of Rowde Hall, near Devizes, was told he had narrowly avoided being sent to jail.
He was also ordered to carry out 60 hours unpaid community work and be subject to a 12 month community rehabilitation order.
In addition he was ordered to pay £360 costs.
The girl ended up in the Great Western Hospital in Swindon, where she had to be put on a drip because she became dehydrated.
Becky Abbott, prosecuting, told South East Wiltshire Magistrates the 17-year-old was kicked in her stomach and also had an eye injury.
As a result she was off work for two weeks.
An an earlier hearing Parry had admitted assaulting the girl in Wiltshire, causing her actual bodily harm.
The case had been adjourned for reports.
Andrew Eddy defending, said Parry had been drinking when the offence took place.
