AN inspection of Devizes Town Hall has taken place after a portion of decorative plasterwork fell off the exterior of the building.
The plasterwork fell off the wall on to the pavement below virtually opposite The Lamb pub last month.
No-one was injured but the town council cordoned off the area and called in a stone conservationist to inspect the rest of the plasterwork.
Deputy town clerk Simon Fisher said: "The plasterwork backs on to some sort of boarding and, over the years, moisture had got in.
"An air gap had formed, causing bits of plasterwork to become loose."
Mr Fisher said that other loose plasterwork had been removed and the council was awaiting a quote for repairs to the concrete sill.
Just over ten years ago a workman walking round the town in his lunch break was seriously injured when a large piece of masonry fell off a building in the Little Brittox.
As a result, Kennet District Council undertook a survey of all shop fronts in the town.
