THE Reverend Chris Tebbutt has exceeded his target in fund-raising to equip a health centre in Sudan.
Mr Tebbutt, vicar of St James' Church, Southbroom, hoped to raise £5,000 through sponsorship when he ran the London Marathon last month.
But donations have flooded in and he has raised £6,500. The money will be used to equip a health centre that has been built in Kajo Keji.
Mr Tebbutt said: "This is great news for the people of Kajo Keji. I hope any extra money raised over the cost of the building can go towards equipment and medical supplies.
"I will also be suggesting that we can continue to keep in touch with the project and build a link so that we can pray and provide practical support on an ongoing basis like many church communities do."
Dr Alison Pinkerton who worked in the health centre will update the congregation on the progress of the project on Sunday May 22 at the 11.15am service.
