It was disappointing that the premier event of the mayoral year was marred by the infighting of some of the current councillors.

This should be a celebration of the outgoing mayor's year and a welcome to the incoming mayor. To have dissension and abstentions was a disgrace. Whatever bickering goes on in the council chamber at meetings, which are fully reported in the press, does not show these elected members in a good light.

Any mistakes which have been made, have been aired, investigated, decided upon and reprimands made and subsequently apologised for. This may be democracy as we know it, but there are times when to hold one's tongue is for the greater good.

Some form of amplification especially for the speeches would be welcome. Or perhaps not.
