GAZETTE & HERALD: CHIPPENHAM book conservator Edward Cheese has won a £9,000 Queen Elizabeth scholarship to study for a post graduate diploma in conserving and restoring books at West Dean College, Chichester.

He will be presented with his award by the Duke of Gloucester at the Royal Warrant Holders' annual lunch in London on June 7.

The Queen Elizabeth Scholarship Trust (QEST) is designed to advance education in modern and traditional crafts and trades.

Mr Cheese, 25, graduated from Durham University with first class honours achieving the best degree in his year before going on to study for his masters.

While at university he received nine separate awards and scholarships.

Last September he embarked on the year-long graduate diploma course in the conservation/restoration of books and library materials at West Dean College, Chichester.

Mr Cheese said: "Winning the QEST Scholarship means I can move on to the postgraduate diploma course in September. This introduces more advanced aspects of book conservation."
