BUDDING archaeologists unearthed an array of historical finds. The Dig for History Project, in a secret location at Dilton Marsh used metal detectors to find buckles, coins and musket balls.
The site yielded treasures from Roman times to medieval England.
Although little of monetary value was discovered, dig organisers were delighted with the historical significance of their finds.
Michelle Slade, 43, of Alfred Street, who is secretary of the project said: "It has been planned over several months and funding has come from various sources to map the history of the Westbury area.
"There were a wealth of historical finds not worth much in monetary value, but all rather interesting in discovering the use of the land.
"There is even an area, which was used by the Americans in the Second World War.
"Treasure is a possibility but we don't want people who think they will find a crock of gold, but it's a bonus if we do."
l The next dig will take place on June 5 and anyone interested should contact Michelle Slade on 07731 961037.
