WESTBURY CRICKET: JOE Breet carried on where he left off last season on Saturday with a fluent 62 to help steer his Westbury side to an opening day win.
The Westbury skipper dominated the batting statistics in the Bristol and North Somerset League last season, scoring 850 runs, and is already looking in similar form.
The South African also picked up a wicket as Westbury cruised to a four-wicket win to give their promotion push the perfect start.
Breet said: "It is always nice to score runs but it is more important that the team wins. We all played well and it is great to have got the season off to a quick start."
After winning the toss, Westbury put the hosts into bat and some tight bowling saw Nailsea struggled to get runs on the board.
Phil Carroll was the pick of Westbury's bowlers with 4-22 as Nailsea finished on 115-6.
Despite opener Alex Hart's duck, Westbury always looked in control as Breet (62) and Adam Goodman (19) put them in a strong position. Debutant Liann Botes (17) scored the winning runs as Westbury reached their total with four wickets in hand after 33 overs.
