I TOOK this photograph (right) at 2pm on Monday outside Hilperton Marina; you will notice that it is parked with all four wheels on the pavement.

I have no objection to the use of speed safety cameras to enforce speed limits, however, I do believe they should carry out their duties in a legal manner. By being parked on the pavement this vehicle presented as much risk to the public as the people who exceed the speed limit.

I have reported the incident to Mr Frampton of the Wiltshire and Swindon Safety Partnership.

Trowbridge

WELL done to the honest citizen of Chippenham without speeding fines, who is organising the procession down the M4 to protest about the speed cameras set out to catch anyone driving over 70 mph. My son, who is in training and has to have a car, left it from Saturday night to Sunday on a yellow line in Trowbridge.

It was not a danger and he was fined £45 which he did not tell me about. Eventually a court summons arrived. I wrote to the police to explain that he had no money and what were they going to do about the fact that his car had been parked in Bradford on Avon on another evening and both mirrors had been snapped off as well as the back window wiper as well as a front one. Other cars had been vandalised.

I received a sympathetic reply that nothing could be done, except my son could go to magistrates court and if they found against him, the fine would be higher. I was caught in a trap, he has no money and could not take the risk of going to court, so I had to pay it.

I would guess that this is happening time and time again. Petty criminals are committing thousands of pounds worth of crime at our expense without redress and honest citizens are being fined massive amounts of money for virtually no crime purely to raise the Chancellor's coffers.

From this I deduce that the police are no longer in the role of catching criminals, but collecting revenue for the government. This leads me to believe that faith in the police is rock bottom and the average citizen, for years only too happy to help, is being turned against them.

How do other good citizens feel?
