INFORMATION on fostering will be on offer at North Swindon Library next week.

A display to raise awareness of fostering and to provide information for anyone interested in fostering now or in the future will be in the library from Tuesday to Friday.

Foster carers and family placement staff will also be on hand to offer advice and information about fostering between 11am and 2pm on Tuesday.

The display and advice event are part of Foster Care Fortnight, which aims to

raise awareness of fostering and highlight the shortage of foster carers across the UK.

In Swindon an extra 40 carers are currently needed.

Coun Ian Dobie (Con, Haydon Wick), Swindon Council's cabinet member for social services, said: "Foster carers have a vital role to play in helping children to thrive by giving them the best possible start in life.

"Anyone can apply to become a foster carer and there are many different ways to get involved it is even possible to foster on a part-time basis.

"We urge people to come forward and

find out more."
