SEAN O'Hanlon has been the subject of a derisory offer from a high-flying League One club.

Director Sandy Gray confirmed an offer has been received for the youngster although it had been turned down flat.

The club was not prepared to state where the bid had come from but the Evening Advertiser understands it is one of the clubs currently battling it out in the play-offs.

Sheffield Wednesday are believed to be in the hunt for a young centre-half and are the most likely candidate, while Tranmere Rovers would also provide a logical move for the Merseysider.

Whatever the offer, it seems the captain is going nowhere.

Earlier this week Gray made it clear that 'silly' offers would simply be dismissed out of hand, and that certainly seems to be the case with O'Hanlon.

Gray said: "I've made it clear to the club concerned that we value our players highly and we aren't going to accept what I've described as 'silly' offers.

"Sean is the captain of our club and we value him very highly."

One of O'Hanlon's biggest fans at the County Ground is Andy King's number two, Alan Reeves.

He is not surprised that the defender is attracting admirers.

Reeves said: "Sean's biggest strength is his temperament in my view.

"He has a great attitude and it genuinely hurts him when a striker gets past him.

"There's a single-mindedness there, a real determination to succeed with Sean.

"I don't think it's a case of him being great at one particular aspect of defending. He's just very good at all of them.

"I believe he's one of the best central defenders in this league."

O'Hanlon has another year to run on his current deal at the County Ground.
