PARENTS are being asked to teach their children basic road safety.
The AA Motoring Trust says that light summer evenings contribute to a 20 per cent rise in the number of children killed in road accidents.
According to the AA 80 per cent of child deaths and serious injuries happen outside the school day.
Their research shows that a third of children who are injured while walking or playing are alone at the time, and only one in 10 are with an adult.
Boys have nearly twice as many accidents as girls.
