77399-8WEDDING cakes are still very much in demand according to Sugar Celebrations. The cake-making company, of Faringdon Road, is providing a three-tier wedding cake for our Bride of the Year competition.
And, cake maker Carole Stafford, 58, is delighted her magic mixture will be eaten at the wedding.
Sugar Celebrations has been whisking up cake mixes for the last 19 years.
Mrs Stafford said: "We've been involved in the competition for three years and I really enjoy it."
Samantha Moaby and Paul Webb, both 32, of Archer Close, Kingsdown, have chosen a traditional fruit cake, with white icing.
But Mrs Stafford doesn't believe in plain cakes.
She said: "I'm going to pipe all of the icing on and then make pink and cream iced roses for the decoration."
The cake making process is a long one.
First each tier is made and then it is left for days before the marzipan can be added.
The next step is to ice the cake and then to add the decoration, which can be tricky and time-consuming.
Mrs Stafford said: "We do all kinds of wedding cakes. You wouldn't believe some of the designs we are asked for.
"But, one of the most popular now is a chocolate cake.
"Samantha was great. She was so enthusiastic so she was a great person to work with."
Samantha, a part-time sales assistant said: "I'm really pleased with the cake. They were really helpful."
