MILITARY historian Bill King is returning to Swindon Museum & Art Gallery in Old Town on Friday to repeat his talk about Britain's secret resistance organisation during the Second World War.
People will be able to learn more about the civilians who came from all over the country to the headquarters at Coleshill House, and nearby Hannington Hall, near Swindon, to be trained in clandestine warfare, in case of a German invasion.
"The British Resistance Organisation, or Auxiliary Units, as they were known, were civilians, often selected for their specialised skills and intimate knowledge of the countryside and arts of field craft," said Mr King. "The Auxiliers received training in all aspects of clandestine warfare concealment, communications, sabotage and assassination."
Mr King's talk, 'Dad's Underground Army' is organised by the Friends of Swindon Museum & Art Gallery. It starts at 7.30pm. Tickets are £4.50 (£3 for members of the Friends'). For further details and tickets call 01793 466556.
