FOLLOWING Friday's story in the Evening Advertiser I'd like to applaud the trade unionists for supporting Salt Way School.
The LEA, Shaw and Nine Elms ward councillors and the Education Partnership Board turned the school consultation process into a farce.
So little real information was forthcoming and so many rumours were left to fill the vacuum. Data publicly promised was later withheld.
The basis of the closure is falling pupil numbers in West Swindon.
On January 20 the number of empty spaces was said to be 700. Less than three weeks later the consultation document puts the number of empty spaces at 680.
A few days later and the consultation presentations put the number at 650.
If the LEA keeps adjusting the figures we'll find that by the time they try to close Salt Way in 2006 it will turn out that we don't actually have enough primary school spaces for West Swindon.
