TODAY, as I was approaching the junction of Nythe Road with Oxford Road at 2.25pm, I noted two cyclists heading east using the north side pavement.
As I motored down the Oxford Road towards the Greenbridge roundabout I noted two more cyclists, again heading east, using the road. What was wrong with the cycle track? Absolutely nothing!
Another two cyclists did use it though their progress would have been hindered by a passenger-carrying vehicle that was parked on the cycle track. Also some vehicles were parked both on the grass verge and partly on the pavement in the areas of Moredon, Headlands, The Magic Roundabout, Walcot and Park.
Cyclists are meant to use the roads or cycle tracks which have been paid for by ratepayers. Motorists are meant to park sensibly and not block the path of cyclists or pedestrians who then have to use the road thereby making it more dangerous for others. Perhaps we all need to re-read the Highway Code once in a while.
