Brian HowardEXCLUSIVE: BRIAN Howard has kicked his last ball for Swindon Town with Bournemouth poised to offer him a contract at the Fitness First Stadium.

The midfielder has confirmed to the Evening Advertiser that the Cherries have been in contact with him and that another League One club are more than interested in acquiring his services.

The Dorset outfit are looking for a left-sided midfielder following Garreth O'Connor's move to Burnley.

Howard, pictured, certainly fits the bill, being able to play in the centre or wide on the left flank.

The Clarets have also signed winger Wade Elliott, someone Howard knows well.

He said: "I've spoken to Wade to be fair and obviously I know a bit about Bournemouth having played them over the last two seasons.

"There isn't an offer on the table as such at this stage but they have been in touch for a 'chat' if you like and I'm now waiting to see what they come back with.

"I've a lot to think about at the moment. There is the Bournemouth thing but another club is also interested.

"I can't say any more but going there would mean uprooting.

"All I can say is that I don't think I will be a Swindon Town player next year."

It is no secret that Town have been unable to offer tempting packages to those out of contract. Howard had no written guarantee of a contract anyway.

He said: "I've always said it isn't all about the money at this stage of my career but obviously you do have to take it into account.

"It's a short career and you need to bear that in mind."

Howard, who scored 10 goals in two seasons at the County Ground, was due to tell manager Andy King of his decision later today.

He said: "To some extent the whole situation has been out of the hands of me and the gaffer.

"I'll be ringing him to tell him what's going on.

"One thing I'll certainly be doing is thanking him. He gave me the chance to play at this level.

"One of the questions he put to me when I came was whether I'd cope with the step up from boys' football to mens' football as he put it?

"I've learned a lot and I'd like to think I've shown that I can bring something to a team.

"Looking elsewhere is a gamble in a sense but then football is a gamble."
