A 21-YEAR-OLD Commando was killed when his Land Rover hit a tree and overturned near Marlborough. Lance Bombardier William Priddy of the Royal Marines Support Artillery was on exercise in a convoy of eight vehicles en route to Salisbury Plain.
The accident on the A346 happened just before 5pm on Monday. The soldier of the elite 29 Command Regiment died at the scene.
The road was closed for four hours. Sgt Bill Haley, of Salisbury traffic police, said: "The soldier lost control of the vehicle.
"The reason is not yet known. His family, who live in Plymouth where he is based, have been informed. No other vehicle was involved."
