A 22-year-old troop commander has been found hanged in a room at Buckley Barracks in Hullavington where he was based.
Second Lieutenant Martin Baker, who was serving with the 9th Supply Regiment of the Royal Logistic Corps, died on Saturday.
His death is being investigated by Wiltshire police. A spokesman said, as is the case with all sudden deaths, a full file will be submitted to the coroner.
Lieutenant Baker was commissioned in August 2004 after training at the Royal Military Academy in Sandhurst and he lived near Hastings in Sussex.
Captain Sarah Marshall, press officer at Buckley Barracks, said Mr Baker had not been involved in any military campaigns. She said: "He was a very outgoing person. Everyone is shocked and saddened by it."
An inquest into his death will be opened at Trowbridge today.
