GOATACRE registered their first league win of the season with a crushing victory at home to Redmarley on Saturday.

After winning the toss and batting Goatacre were given a good start by Steve Lines and Kevin Iles before Iles was bowled for 24 in the tenth over.

Rob Turner then joined Lines and they set about building a match-winning partnership.

Both batsmen regularly found the boundary as the stand reached 86 before Lines was caught for a well made 56.

Dan Horton then fell cheaply but Matt Wilkins supported Turner until he was bowled for 21 leaving the score at 163-4.

Turner reached his half-century but after Ed Wilkins was bowled for eight and Turner holed out for 63 Goatacre looked in danger of wasting their good start.

But Adam Iles (25 not out), with support from captain Sam Parish and debutant James McNulty, managed to score heavily in the last five overs leaving the home side on 229-7.

In reply Redmarley got off to a flyer, reaching 34 from just 4 overs, as their captain Ali Watkins dispatched the ball to all parts of the ground. The introduction of bowlers Rhan Heer and Kevin Iles did start to slow the run rate and it was Heer who got the breakthrough, having the dangerous Watkins caught by Matt Wilkins on the square leg boundary.

As the away side began to push their score into the seventies Heer returned to start their collapsee gaining a wicket thanks to a catch by Ed Wilkins before gaining two LBW decisions to leave Redmarley in disarray.

With the game lost the visitors offered little resistance and McNulty made a fine start to his Goatacre career by coming on to take 4-10 in 5 overs, while Heer ended with figures of 5-30 in his 15 overs.

Captain Parish said: "All in all it was a fine team performance by Goatacre that gives us hope for the rest of the season."

Goatacre travel to Hatherley and Reddings on Saturday.
