DEVIZES cruised to a 17-run victory thanks to a solid middle order performance.

Nearly all partnerships from the third wicket onwards made 40 or exceeded that total as Devizes reached 250-7 off their 50 overs.

They then reduced Warminster to 233 courtesy of some nifty bowling from Alex Muse who finished with figures of 6-72.

After Devizes' openers had left Ben Watson (31) and Mark Colyer (41) went about setting a winning total for the home side.

After they had departed Guy Tadman (55) and Jon Couch (38) set about adding to the home side's score before captain Andy Hodder hit 43 runs off around seven overs.

The total was too much for Warminster who had scores from Richie Underdown (76) and Justin Shuttlewood (40) to thank for a respectable total.

Devizes captain Andy Hodder said every one of his XI had made a contribution.

"It was a really encouraging performance. If you think we reached 250 and the top score was 55 it shows how everyone chipped in.

"Alex Muse got wickets at important times, including one that ripped up the middle stump, but it was a game that kept swinging between the sides really.

"Mark Sinclair took the best catch behind the stumps that I have ever seen in my life.

"He was diving behind himself and the ball was past him and he managed to catch it.

"All the other guys were amazed as well. It was unbelievable."

Devizes travel to Bredon next Saturday hoping to turn out another good performance.

"If we keep doing what we have been and keep playing for each other then with our commitment and team spirit we should win," said Hodder.
