WILTSHIRE LEAGUE: WESTINGHOUSE opener John Peters smashed an unbeaten 221 at Calne on Saturday to record the fifth highest individual score in the Wiltshire League's history.

He inspired a massive total 293-3 which Calne fell well short of in reply, Malcolm Zishiri's 64 not out leaving them on 156.

Lechlade's good start to the season continued as they visited Great Bedwyn and scored 282-9, with Ijaz Khan (70), Paul Giddings (40), and Roger Pettifer (43) in form. Bedwyn in response were dismissed for 205 with George Stone 44 and Rob Palmer 40.

Wootton Bassett still await their first win, as they narrowly lost by five runs at Purton. For the home side, Mark Gardener (73no), Tom Bowler (26) and Sam Sheppard (28) helped them to 180-6. Bassett closed at 175-6 with Kevin Shar (52) and Colin Chettle (43) the pick.

Box's good start to the season continued as they defeated visiting Spye Park by five wickets. For Spye, John Haines (87) and Tim Hughes (50no) helped them to 197-8. Gerald Hayward (84no) and Dave Crawford (44) then steered Box to victory.

At Bath Civil Service, a rapid 95 in 63 balls from John Fair, aided by solid knocks from Henry Burmingham (64) and John Down (42) saw Civil Service to a daunting 273-5. Visiting Collingbourne, despite 51 from John Cummins, were bowled out for 172 Simon Ellerman (3-20) the pick.

COOPER-Avon Tyres lost their second match in a row after Swindon Civil Service bowled them out for 131.

Rich Jory hit 45, with James Callender 4-33 in 12 overs, Nick Money 3-17 in 12 and Mat Smith 3-23 in four taking the wickets.

Civil Service went on to win by five wickets with eight overs remaining. Shaun Smith (51) and Mark Hayward (31) leading the way. Jory took 3-24.

Blunsdon, at home to Buscot Park, scored a useful 237-9 thanks to Darren Fisher (82) and Baz Palmer (41). For Buscot, James Phillips picked up 3-68 in 11 overs and Ian Mills 2-46 in his 12. Thanks to Joe Morton (91) and Ronny Fernandez (57), Buscot scored the runs for the loss of seven wickets, with five overs to spare. For Blunsdon, Darren picked up 2-46 in 11 overs and Paul Usher 2-60 in nine.

Potterne raced to their highest ever League total at home to Urchfont, a massive 366-6. David Llyod (87), Brendan Baker (57), Ricky Jackson (45) and Graham Gaiger (25) heading the run fest. Urchfont were then shot out for 74 in 23.1 overs, Nick Francis knocking a defiant 31.

Avebury's good start to the season continued as they raced to 267-6 at Seagry. John Rhineberg (62) and a fine 101 from Dominic Fry setting them on their way. Willy Tidmarsh took 3-48 in his 12 overs. In reply, only Alex Fereday (41) offered much resistance as Seagry were bowled out for 102. Peter Force-Jones 4-18 in nine overs doing most of the damage.

Sutton Veny scored 196-7 thanks to Andy Frost (50), Rob Nash (40) and Colin Brown 36 at home to Nationwide House, for whom Mark Flay took 5-34 in 11 overs. Nationwide then managed only 124 all out in reply Steve Lewis (29no) top scoring as Colin took 4-35 and Dougie Small 3-15.

BURBAGE & ER's poor start continued they went down by 16 runs to visiting Lambourn in a low scoring game.

The visitors struggled for runs and managed just 114-7 from their allotted overs Ian Hobbs a patient 37. Ed Munday with 3-5 in eight overs and Dave Hawkins 3-11 in 2.5 then did most of the damage as Burbage were dismissed for 98 in their 34th over.

Beanacre raced to 274-4 at home to Wanborough thanks to John Adcock (147) who, with Mark Wiltshire (66), added 194 for their second wicket. Wanborough could never match the asking rate and Mark Pethick's 81 saw them close at 183-9 as Andy Footner took 3-32 in 12 overs.

At Cherhill, Ben Webber (38) and Neil Sullis (28) top scored in their 156-7 against visiting Wilcot. Thanks to George Stephens (49) and Colin Hyde (41no), the visitors gained a comfortable five wicket victory.

Moredon Royal Oak, thanks to Roger Morton (41) and Mo Farooq (32), scored 181-9 against hosts Corsham 3rd XI, for whom Josh Bewley took 3-13. Thanks to a restrictive spell from Tom Hawks of 2-10, Corsham's reply was always trying to play catch-up and they were eventually dismissed for 128. Simon Acornley hit an unbeaten 29, while Leon Blake also picked up 2-6 in three overs.

Hosts Swindon 3rd XI struggled to 102 all out against Wroughton Wranglers, Alan Read (25) top scoring, as Mark Evans took 5-25 and Mark McMeekin 2-18. In reply, Wroughton were all out on 75, Steve Granger on 22, as the damage was done by Randy Roze (3-11), Stephen Cole (2-21), Bruce Stone (2-27) and Tom Shanks (2-2).

AT Coates, Dan Mead (61no) and Tim Sanderson (47) helped the hosts to 165-4 against visiting Purton 2nd XI, for whom Andy Miles picked up 3-18.

Purton gained a six wicket win as Andy Diston (43), Mark Collier (36) and Andy Miles (53no) knocked the runs off. For Coates, Sanderson took 2-40 in 11 overs.

Bathford 2nd XI's batsmen ran riot at home to Highworth. A league equaling highest of 147 from Paul Merritt backed by 47 from Steve Ball saw them post their highest ever League total of 331-6. In the mayhem, Steve White took 2-75 in 12 overs and Dave Close 3-87 in 11.

Highworth, in reply, made 155-7 with Dave Batchelor (60) and Pete Wills (31) th only resistance to Andrew Murray (2-24) and Merritt (2-33).

Bradford Town scored 145-7 at home to Swindon Litten Tree with James Edwards (27), Matthew Harrington (26) and Dean Bird (21no) top scoring. For Litten Tree John Brown took 4-20 in his 12 overs. The visitors were then bowled out for 98 with Bird taking 3-29 and Tony Laws 3-11.

Nationwide House 2nd XI played host to Heytesbury and were shot out for their lowest ever League total, just 50, as Justin Wagstaff took 5-11 and Sidney Barnes 2-13. An unbeaten 34 from Wagstaff helped Heytesbury to a ten wicket win in just 11 overs.

AT Chippenham, Warminster 3rd XI were indebted to an excellent knock of 112 from skipper Colin Webb as they scored 228-8. Tom Davey chipped in with 31 while Steve Merryweather picked up 3-36 in 12 overs and Aaron Merryweather 3-45 in 10.

Chipenham made light of the task, running out winners by eight wickets with nine overs to spare thanks to Merryweather (118), Ray Bullen (71) and John Whiteman (22).

At Buscot Park 2nd XI, visiting Beehive Bradford scored 233-8 thanks to Mike Reeves (74), and Micky Spong (42) while Mark Lawson picked up 3-49 in 12 overs. Despite 44 from Peter Stone, Buscot were then bowled out for 156 in the 39th over.

Devizes 3rd XI were bowled out for 147 at Westinghouse 2nd XI, Steve Drewett with 44, and Paul Burtenshaw 3-27 in 11 overs. Pauk Grace (51no) and Sam Dix (47) then steered Westinghouse to a comfortable seven wicket victory. Mildenhall were shot out for just 56 at Nettleton who gained an easy eight wicket success thanks to Stuart Baker (38).

United Churches visited Wootton Bassett 2nd XI and scored 214-8 thanks to Alan Jones (73) and Dave Hunt (53no). For Bassett, Barry Thurtell took 4-32. Dave Griffen (70) and Jim Burns (52no) steered Bassett to a six wicket win.

A HIGH scoring encounter at Cooper-Avon Tyres 2nd XI saw the home side make 218-4 thanks to Chris Shearn (69), Dean Wallington (51) and Steve Taylor (50). Visiting Burbage & E.R. 2nds then proceeded to knock the runs off thanks to an unbeaten 92 by Paul Street.

Box 2nd XI raced to 280-5 at Goatacre 3rd XI, with Dean Cogswell claiming their highest League individual total of 156 not out, supported by Ed Hope (64). In reply, Goatacre reached 194-7 Paul Merritt hit 51.

Westbury 3rd XI entertained Calne 2nd XI and thanks to 107 from skipper Phil Mead, helped by Matty Dix (37) and John Evershed (35), closed on 220-9. Pete Knight 3-40 was the pick of the Calne bowlers. Pete Seviour (6-38) and Mark Drew (3-36) bowled Calne out for 79, despite a fine unbeaten 54 from opener Garry Robinson.

At All Cannings, the home side scored 145-9 against Lacock with Andy Legg 40 and James Foley 51. Lacock went on to win by four wickets, despite Garry Perrett 3-40 in 12 overs and Kevin Ryalls 3-42 in 8.

COLLINGBOURNE 2nd XI made 212-7 at home to Bath Civil Service 2nd XI with James Dandy (32) and Jamey Stamp (29no) top scoring. Nathan Young then took 4-22 and only 27 by Dave Price enabled Civil Service to muster 97 all out.

Beanacre 2nd XI were restricted to 156-7 at Dauntsey Gentlemen with Owen Lewis 46 and Tony Braine 39 top scoring while Tony Summers (4-35) was the pick of the bowlers. Paul Biggs (40) and Sam Kingsburn (51no) then took Dauntsey to a narrow two wicket victory as Rob Hughes took 3-32 in 12 overs.

Marshfield 3rd XI, thanks to Terry Bishop (55) and Martin Roper (43) scored 171 all out against visiting Cherhill 2nd XI for whom Dave Hewins took 4-18 in 10 overs. With Mike Threadgill then taking 5-13 Cherhill were dismissed for 87.

Corsham 4th XI visited Biddestone 3rd XI and came away with a narrow one wicket win. Biddestone made 125-9 thanks to Kevin Mitchell (47) and Howard Moreland (26). Martin Hick took 4-22 in 12 overs. Despite Howard's 3-17 in 12 overs and Andy Lawson 3-41 in nine, a patient 38 from Tony Shardlow saw Corsham home with just 16 balls left.

UNITED Churches 2nd XI entertained All Cannings 2nd XI and scored 214-7 with David Tims (59) and Mike Offer (31) top scoring. Richard Sykes took 4-46. All Cannings were then bowled out for 119, Andrew Plank 36 top scoring as Neil Lang had 2-26 and Neil Thomas a match winning 7-11 in just six overs.

North Bradley bowled visitors Biddestone 4th XI out for 96 with Steve Brown 2-7 and Alan Colbrook 2-27. Olly Howe (33) and Steve Eade (22) steered them to a five wicket win.

Bathford 2nd XI, with Hugh Desai (103) and Simon Machin (50no) on form, emulated their seniors as they rattled up 251-3 to beat Wilcot 2nd XI, a club record.

Andy Logan (31) and Graham Duckett (27) helped Warminster 4th XI to 105 all out against visiting Swindon 4th XI who went on to win by seven wickets, thanks to Steve Pinchin (32no), Ray Barratt (24) and Andy Braggins (28no).

Spye Park 2nd XI scored 147-7 at home to Blunsdon 2nd XI thanks to 14-year-old Tom Young (56) and John Chivers (20). Mick Walker picked up 5-38 in 12 overs. However, a 60 from Garry Dobson, despite Paul Hughes' 3-40, saw Blunsdon gain a two wicket win. Potterne 2nd XI calimed the points at Highworth 2nd XI thanks to Ed Fruen (79), Dave Evans (50no) and Kevin Gover (48).
