THE district council working group looking into a shake up of car parking charges in North Wiltshire has recommended ignoring most of the suggestions from Chippenham Chamber of Commerce and the town council.
The chamber suggested putting off the rises for a survey into the impact of the proposals and the provision of extra car parking but the district executive has been recommended not to support this by the working group.
The town council requested car parking charges be fixed for three years but opinion was divided about the merits of this path, and the group failed to agree on a recommendation.
Town council leader Sandie Webb said she hoped the working party would explain why so many of their suggestions were being ignored.
But the working party has recommended the executive listen to Corsham Town Council's plea for parking at the Springfield Centre to be free .
Corsham Town Council also asked for the maximum parking period in the High Street car park to remain long term, but the working group doesn't support the idea, nor a suggestion for free parking after noon on Saturdays in Corsham.
Calne mayor Cathy Bowyer said the town council did not support the proposals, which were double what was originally suggested.
"We also want a maximum of four hours parking," she said.
