FC Chippenham completed their league and cup double with a 6-1 derby victory over AFC Corsham at the league's cup finals day at Melksham Town on Saturday.

Both U11s teams had their chances but Chippenham's more clinical finishing brought them the victory after goals from Jamie Rodriguez, Jack Williamson, Daniel Heavie, Jamie Walker and Matthew Stevens.

Chippenham coach Steve Hulbert said he was proud of his team's performances throughout the season.

"It was a good day for me personally. It was my wife's birthday, my son plays in my team, we won the double and my elder son plays for Trowbridge U13s and he won as well," added Hulbet.

"It was a superb game and everyone was happy. I think we deserved to win. It was not our best performance but we worked very hard and what was nice is there were five different goal scorers.

"We missed a few chances but in fairness to Corsham they never gave up and battled right the way through.

"We are now unbeaten in 90 minutes all season with our only loss on penalties in the county cup so the lads could not have given me any more."

Leigh Rogers scored for Corsham and was named man of the match while referee Alan Evans was awarded the Best Level Seven award for attaining the highest marks over the past season in the league.

Hulbert also praised the Melksham staff: "The league and everyone at Melksham has made this a really good day for everyone.

"They looked after the kids and made it really special and you could tell all the boys were enjoying it."

The weekend kicked off with the U17s cup final between Chippenham Town and Salisbury City Juniors on Friday night. Salisbury were dominant throughout the 90 minutes, running out 4-0 winners.

A large crowd gathered for the U15s final between Chippenham Town Youth and the host's Melksham Town Youth with both teams going for the double.

And the final between the Blue Division champions, Chippenham, and Green Division winners, Melksham, did not disappoint.

Chippenham took the lead in the first half with a goal from Joe White, son of assistant manager Steve.

Melksham battled hard in the second half and were rewarded with an equaliser from Ross Crighton.

With just minutes left on the watch super sub Mike Smith came on and within minutes scored the winner to give Melksham the game at 2-1.

Man-of-the-match went to Chippenham's Alex Leadbetter.

Melksham manager Steve Robbins was pleased with how his team coped against a team in the league above.

He said: "As a team this is the third time we have played Chippenham in the final and the first time we have beaten them.

"All the team played brilliantly. I am chuffed for all the boys and it tops off the season with a double."

Chippenham boss Ron Needham, who swaps roles with his assistant Steve White in the Southern League for Chippenham Town, said youth football is far more relaxing than the men's game.

"It's totally different, probably more enjoyable. They are young boys and they try to play the game properly."

Needham said his team can be proud of their achievements this season: "It was a pretty even game. We scored first and then they had some chances and after they scored in the second half they came stronger.

"We lost in the county cup final a month ago but won the league so it has been a good season.

"We have only lost three games so the boys can be proud of themselves. They have stayed together for a few years and have benefited from that."

The final of the U9s cup was played between Blue Division AFC Corsham and Trowbridge Town Youth from the Green Division.

In an evenly contested first half both sides created chances and went close to opening the scoring.

The deadlock was finally broken when a cross from Jamie Mortimer was seized on by Ashley Rendall who bundled the ball home from close range for Trowbridge to take the lead.

The second half saw the Corsham goal come under increasing threat as Trowbridge took control with the player of the match Alex Kilbane in the Corsham goal pulling off a number of good saves to keep out efforts from Leon Greenland, Jack Whiting, Oliver Nash and Daniel Letchford.

Trowbridge kept their nerve in the final minutes of Corsham pressure to run out as deserved winners.

The U14s Tim Kerr Memorial Trophy was played out between AFC Corsham and Trowbridge Town Youth. Corsham showed great team spirit but a fantastic performance from Trowbridge saw them deserved 8-0 winners at the final whistle.

Trowbridge saw goals from James Vince (2), Tom Bonser (2), Sam Meredith and a hat-trick from Liam Flower. Despite the scoreline Corsham keeper Ollie Cooper was nominated man-of-the-match. Corsham chief Andy Cooper said: "I'm extremely proud of the team as we are a league below Trowbridge.

"We were only promoted from the bottom division to the second at the start of the season so just to stay up was great let alone reach the cup final."

Trowbridge Town Youth scooped their second trophy of the day when they ran out 3-1 winners against Calne Town Youth in the U12s Ron Boucher Memorial Trophy.
