16100/1GAZETTE & HERALD: CHILDREN at Calne's Humpty Dumpty Pre-school got wheelie excited when a 7.5 tonne pink truck called Suzi visited on Thursday.

The Chippenham-based driving recruitment specialists 24-7 Staffing arranged for Suzi to make a tour of local nurseries to teach children about the important role lorries play in our everyday lives.

Suzi is a member of The Truckitts, a fleet of cartoon characters from a series of children's books that teach children about road and truck safety issues.

And 24/7 Staffing donated the book series, worth £20, to the pre-school, based in the Methodist Church in Calne.

Supervisor Shirley Hegerty said the children enjoyed the day and all 20 of them got to sit in Suzi.

"They got a lot out of it because we have been doing transport for our theme and they had been making things all week in junk modelling," she said.

"We had been talking about lorries so it tied in really well and it's not very often you see a great 7.5 tonne pink lorry."

The children were read a story from the Truckitts series and decorated a box to look just like Suzi.

Mrs Hegerty said: "They enjoyed looking at the books the boys go to them straight away because they feature trucks and it makes the girls more interested, where normally they wouldn't pick up books with lorries in them."

A spokesperson from 24/7 Staffing said: "These children are our drivers of tomorrow, and the more we can get them involved in the transport world, the better for everyone."
