A NEW committee headed by Hugh Deacon has brought about a new look at the Marlborough Conservative Club.
The club has never been flush with money so Mr Deacon and members of his committee have given the inside of the High Street building a DIY makeover.
Although he is approaching his 80th birthday, Mr Deacon has taken a lead by painting the walls and ceiling of the front bar with the help of the club's new steward Keith Gair.
The club loos have all been spruced up and new curtains have been fitted in the first floor snooker room to keep out the sun while matches are played.
Mr Deacon, who has been a member of the club for almost 30 years, has taken over as chairman from David Hunter.
He said: "The club wasn't exactly flush with money but the inside needed redecorating so I decided to lead by example and with the help of Keith and some of the new committee we have a club to be proud of again ."
The chairman said the club, which has been in existence for well over 60 years, now needs more members.
