A GROUP of Dorcan students were due to fly to Poland today to take part in a week of international workshops.

Four 13-year-olds and teacher Brian Jackson, will meet up with youngsters from Spain, Romania, Italy, Finland and Poland.

The teenagers, Stephanie Penny, Kelly Mitchell, Natasha Romanek and Eleanor Howells will participate in workshops including ones on acrobatics, glass painting and making musical instruments. Assistant headteacher Mr Jackson, who organised the trip to Warsaw, said: "Being a technology college it gives a broader understanding of how big business works, where they are having to work with people from other countries and understand how that works.

"It's an excellent opportunity for them.

"They will be working with people who might not speak English so they will have to learn alternative forms of expression. A lot of personal qualities will be brought out and they will see people from other countries."

Last year youngsters from all the different countries met at Dorcan Technology School and each year groups of children from all over Europe are given two design briefs to work on.

The designs are produced at Dorcan Technology College's Education Centre at Swindon Pressings.
