Regarding the Calne traffic situation, after many weeks of disruption due to the extensive (and expensive) roadworks, whatever the planners were hoping for, it's not working, is it? In fact, it's a complete disaster.
The town has effectively been split in two. Access to the main car parks, shops and fuel stations has become a stressful, time-consuming trial for anyone having to negotiate the new bottleneck. If the idea was to channel through traffic via the bypass, fair enough, but the needs and volume of local traffic have been under-estimated. There are fairly simple solutions to improve matters. Perhaps the council would like to arrange an open evening to explain their actions and hear suggestions from the community?
