I was interested to read your article in the Gazette on May 12 about the frail 79-year-old man who had to be evicted from what he regarded his home.
The reason quoted was: "Michael Rowan, prosecuting, said the local authority had a duty to uphold planning law."
In my village a wealthy land owner had planning permission to build a new garage, but instead converted the top of it to self-contained living accommodation. When this was pointed out to the local authority they gave him retrospective planning permission.
Is this what you mean by a "duty to uphold planning law", or does it really boil down to in whose vested interest does the decision lie?
