I must heartily agree with Colin Johns' report with regards to the state of Devizes conservation area (Gazette, May 12).

His acknowledgement that the County Council is guilty of gross sign pollution, not only in Devizes but all over the county, was music to my ears. Come on Wiltshire County Council, do we really need to spend precious resources on such eyesores? You have made a great mistake in refusing to work alongside the Council for the Protection of Rural England which campaigns for preservation of our countryside. I feel it is time for a rethink and stop this proliferation of signage invading our countryside.
