CHIPPENHAM NEWS: FORMULA 3 at Castle Combe is still in jeopardy after council bosses decided noise restrictions should be left in place.
A noise abatement order was issued to Castle Combe Circuit in January. They are appealing against the order, which will prevent the circuit hosting its annual Formula 3 and British GT super saloon championship.
North Wiltshire District Council's executive discussed the noise restrictions on Thursday after Cllr Richard Watkins put forward a motion for the executive to consider its impact on tourism and the community.
Cllr Watkins said he was disappointed by the level of discussion at the meeting.
He said: "I don't think people have understood the entire argument and are using a JCB to crack a walnut. I wanted it to be discussed objectively."
He thinks a balance needs to be met between the noise created by the circuit and the impact on tourism of limiting events there.
An appeal will be heard at a two-day hearing in July.
