CHIPPENHAM CRICKET: TREVOR Lloyd has insisted there is still a positive mood among his Chippenham side despite crashing to their second defeat of the season at Downend on Saturday.
Downend's overseas all-rounder Kshemal Wainqankar took six wickets as Chippenham were bowled out for 94 and he then top scored with 30 as the hosts reached their target from just 20 overs.
The result leaves Chippenham with no points from two matches, but captain Lloyd insists there is no need to panic.
He said: "Batting wise was not very good, but saying that their wicket was very two-paced and their overseas seamer bowled very well.
"We are all disappointed with how things have gone so far this season but we will all stay positive and I am confident things will turn around quickly.
"At the moment we are all off form together and as a result we are struggling.
"But we will pick things up and I am sure the confidence will soon come back to the players."
After winning the toss, choosing to bat appeared to be the wrong decision by Lloyd as Downend seized the initiative with some early breakthroughs.
Openers Richard Bates and Liam Dawson were both dismissed without scoring while Lloyd (0) and Chris Nicholas (3) followed soon after to leave them on 20-4.
Things did not get much better for the visitors with only three batsmen Hayden Smith (14), Paul Bates (21) and Steve Richardson (15) reaching double figures.
The other eight batsmen only added 16 runs between them and with four ducks, a score of 94 off 35 overs was not surprising.
In reply, Downend never looked like losing their grip and they quickly reached their target from just 20 overs, having lost five wickets.
Paul Bates finished with figures of 3-41 while Richard Bates and Philip Adams took one wicket apiece.
Lloyd said: "I think if we had have scored 20 runs more we would have won. We kept taking wickets but in the end we just gave ourselves too much to do.
