WITH the women's European Championships in England looming just round the corner, girls football in the county is set to attract more interest than ever.
The championships will result in a number of high profile games being screened to households nationwide and clubs in the area will hope to take full advantage.
After a successful debut season in the Wiltshire Women's and Girls' League, the girls of Derry Hill United, who have just completed the FA Soccer Stars scheme, are hoping for an increase in number next season.
Jon Baker, the club's girls' football development officer, said: "This year was especially rewarding with many players achieving three stars or above, and two receiving the top award.
"In this our first year of league participation each of the squads have done well, holding their own against some well-established teams.
"We are not just about winning and like to help the girls develop their football skills. This philosophy has been rewarded with four of our players being selected to represent the Wiltshire Girls School of Excellence."
The club's chairman Alan Crocker said: "We like to make football interesting and would encourage all girls to give football a go.
"It's fun and healthy too what a great combination. With the ladies' European championships being held in England this June I'm sure there will be more girls wanting to play."
