30515HUNDREDS of enthusiasts flocked to the grounds of one of west Wiltshire's most decorated landscapes to help boost the bird population.

More than 250 people turned out at Iford Manor, near Bradford on Avon, to help build bird boxes for the orchard designed by architect Harold Peto.

Judy Eglington, who helped to co-ordinate the day with the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds, said: "It was a new venture. There was an activity table where the children were encouraged to build nest boxes from pre-made parts with the help of RSPB members.

"It was very much an awareness-raising activity to get children to take an interest in bird life."
