A PRIMARY school was forced to close for a day on Monday after burglars stole more than £600 of computer equipment.
Teachers and pupils were left shocked after the weekend break-in at Westwood Primary School.
Thieves broke in through the back of the building before making off with monitors and printers. Headteacher Sarah O'Donnell said: "We do know that they left through the hedge into the football field which is behind our school field, as we found some printer paper in the hedge.
"We have not had a problem for the last 11 years and it was distressing to the children and teachers.
"The top class are without their computers at the moment and I would think it will be at least a month before everything is back to normal. But we have had some very generous offers of equipment to us in the meantime, and people have been very generous and supportive."
PC Nigel Bullimore, of Bradford on Avon police, said: "This is the first case in Bradford that I'm aware of, but there have been two similar ones in Melksham and one in Trowbridge, so it's possible they are linked."
