BELINDA the Banana has been helping teach children about the benefits of healthy eating.
The giant yellow fruit, also known as Janet Brown from Trowbridge fruit and veg supply firm George Brown and Sons, gave a talk to children at Wells Cathedral School.
Mrs Brown, along with her son Simon, told the children all about the importance of eating five portions of fruit and vegetables a day.
Toni Molloy, the school's catering manager, said: "The importance of five portions a day can't be emphasised enough. We provide more than 1,000 meals a day and always ensure the children have a healthy variety on the menu, which includes loads of fresh vegetables, fruit and salads."
The 170 pupils learned that seasonal fruit and vegetables are available all year round now because they are flown in from all around the globe, which is not environmentally ideal. George Brown and Sons, which provides the school with about 300 kilos of fruit and vegetables a day, tries to source a lot of its stock from local growers.
Staff at the family-run business, are travelling to London today to be presented with an Investors In People award by business expert Sir Gerry Robinson who spent time at the firm in 2003 filming the BBC2 series I'll Show Them Who's Boss.
