I WAS interested to read about Violet Harvey in your supplement paper dated May 7.
I was also a WAAF at Lulsgate Bottom at that time, my name was also Violet and my husband-to-be was also in the Royal Navy.
We were married in July 1946 but sadly he died in 1992.
In my hut at Lulsgate there was another WAAF named Violet so I was called little Vi. My friends and I spent VE day in Bristol as we didn't have any money for our fare home.
I was at Lulsgate for two years and at the end of 1945 I was posted to Shawbury in Shropshire. I used to receive parcels from the Mayoress of Swindon's Comfort Fund which was very acceptable.
While I was in sick bay at Lulsgate the medical corporal made up a poem about my husband-to-be coming home to me which I still have.
My father was in the Royal Artillery having spent time in Malta during the siege there, so between us we represented the three services.
I would like to send my congratulations to Violet Harvey when she reaches her diamond wedding anniversary.
V Fletcher nee Thomas
