A SWINDON teenager is embarking on a 20-mile walk around the town to raise money for a trip to Brazil to work in an orphanage.
Daniel Tredget, 18, who is studying maths, chemistry and geography at New College, hopes to raise £1,400 so that he can spend five weeks at the orphanage run by the Oasis Trust.
The teenager who lives with his parents Karen, a full time mum, Keith, a software programmer and sister Ruth, 16, in Lawn, will be walking for 20 miles around the out-side of Swindon starting and finishing at Coate Water.
He said: "I really want to do something where I can help people after I've done my A levels. I also wanted to have the experience of living abroad.
"Originally I'd planned to take a gap year.
"But I'll be studying maths at university and they don't like people to take a year out because then they forget everything.
"I read about the Oasis Trust, which runs orphanages in poverty stricken regions across the world, on the internet.
"The £1,400 covers two training weekends, flights to Brazil, travel and accommodation while you are there and travel around the country."
Daniel who does youth work in this country knows there will be some hard work on the agenda.
"We are going to be doing building maintenance as well as arts, crafts, sports and games.
"There will be a 13 strong team of us going and they will be from all over the country and of all ages. Some are already working but most are university students."
Daniel's walk takes place on Saturday, June 18.
